retrieve during dog handlingThe Sugar River Valley Chapter of Pheasants Forever has been Developing Wildlife Habitat in Southern Wisconsin for nearly 20 years. At this springs Wisconsin Pheasants Forever Annual Meeting, our chapter was given an award for having reached the $250,000 milestone in wildlife habitat establishment. Over the years we have worked with hundreds of landowners on grassland and food plot projects.

On two different occassions we were one of the top ten Pheasants Forever Chapters nationally in amount of done in a given year, We have also received both county and district awards from the Natural Resources Conservation Service for Wildlife Habitat Developement. We have been recently awarded grants from both the state pheasant stamp and turkey stamp programs. One grant was to do tall grass prairie instalation and maintenance and the other grant is to help purchase a large ATV with water tank for spraying and to help with controlled burning. Our chapter, the Argyle/Adams Fire Department and the Argyle Rod and Gun Club are joining together to provide contolled burning as a major fundraiser for all three organizations. The ATV will serve as a remote rescue vehicle for the area.

The chapter is involved with the Leopold Education Project (LEP) sponsoring numerous educators to its courses. We are also a strong supporter of the Argyle Land Ethic Academy (ALEA)and Argyle Reads Aldo Leopold which is held the first weekend in March.

some of the PF banquet itemsWe hold our yearly membership banquet the first Saturday in October at Lelle's in Woodford. A 2007 Ticket Application Form can be copied and used for the October 6th. Banquet. This will be our chapter's 20th Annual Banquet and it is Pheaqsants Forevers 25th Anniversary as well. There will several 25th Anniverary items in the nearly 30 item live auction as well as a special 25th Anniversary Raffle. We will again be giving away dozens of guns as raffle prizes and adult member and youth prizes. We want to make our twentieth the best banquet yet.

We also hold a Sponsor/Committee/Landowner Appreciation Dinner the first Saturday in December, at theArgyle Rod & Gun Club. Since we have an extremely active chapter our appreciation banquet often has over 100 people attending. It is truely impressive to see the huge number of people actively involved in the major activities of the chapter. A major thanks to all of you.

big group The AR&GC is also the site of our Wisconsin Pheasants Forever Sporting Clays Shoot which is held the middle weekend in July. This year's event is open to the public and is scheduled for July 14. Lewis Class Prizes are awarded so that both good and poor shooters have equal chances of winning prizes. The course is set up in a shooter friendly manner so everyone enjoys themselves. This year the Lions Club is putting on a Steak Fry following the shoot.

This fall we will be conducting our 10th Annual DNR "Learn to Hunt" Pheasant Youth Hunt at the Argyle Rod & Gun Club and adjacent properties including Savanna Springs , the site of other chapter related youth activities. The youth hunt is held the Saturday before our annual banquet; this year September 29th. We also team up with the AR&GC and the Pecatonica River Valley Turkey Trackers Chapter of the NWTF and hold a Youth Turkey each spring.

pheasant in air about to be shot The Chapter sponsors Boy Scout Venture Crew 1832 which is a Shooting Sports Venture Crew open to young men and women between the ages of 14 and 21. Besides being involved with the shooting activities and youth hunts the group does other high adventure activities like white-water rafting on the Wolf River and Lake Michigan Salmon Charter Boat Fishing trips.

Recently 3 of our venture crew members attended the World Boy Scouting 100th Anniversary Jamboree in England and a 1832 Crew of 8 venture scouts and 4 leaders just returned from a 10 day trek at Philmont Boy Scout Ranch in the New Mexico mountains.

tee off The Matt Grossen Memorial Golf Outing is held on a Saturday near Labor Day at the Edelweis Country Club near New Glarus. This years event will be held on September 8th. Matt was one of our young members who was killed in a car accident and his family holds this fundraiser in his memory to support our Youth Educational Program. We have named our yearly youth hunt after him. To participate on one of the many teams or as a hole sponsor contact Gordee Grossen at 608-938-4417
